"About fifty years ago my father was appointed as President of Gillette Hospital by the Governor during a period when the hospital was having financial difficulty due to cutbacks in funding by the State Legislature. At the time, as a young adult, I recall his commitment to finding a solution to this crisis. While he was at Gillette, he became friends with many of the incredible doctors who were devoting their lives to help children. He maintained those friendships after his assignment was over. The remarkable work that the doctors and nurses were doing at Gillette had a lasting impact on him. Upon his death he was buried with a jacket given to him by Gillette that had a patch that said, 'children are diamonds.'"
